WHAT WE HAVE DONE:
Happy started the school in 2014, and out of his monthly salary paid for a teacher to run the school every afternoon.
Through fundraising we knocked down our old building which was without proper foundations and rebuilt it with a huge hall that we can use for a schoolroom, church, and community events. We also created a washroom, kitchen and spare room for weary travellers, or for people visiting family who have only one room homes.
During lockdown we bought large food parcels for over 200 families, and we used our building as a collection point as well as our home in the second lockdown.
Opened our building for an eye specialist to run a free clinic for our neighbours.
Used our building to store catering equipment and gifts for a wedding on behalf of a widow’s daughter.
Happy runs 3-month computer classes and we have sewing classes every weekday evening with beautiful sewing machines that we were able to buy thanks to generous donations.
During the pandemic, many slum dwellers were unable to access government support as they did not have relevant documentation.
Happy was able to help many neighbours to get the ID required.
